You may not believe this but there's a theory in managing projects called student syndrome. Basically when you set a due date for project deliverables it causes projects teams to slow down. They assume that they have loads of time. At best as a project manager your projects might come in on time, but it's much more likely that they will be late, very late.
And did you know that many project teams waste lots of time re-building project networks when they could have worked from a simple project template. Knowing how to build and optimise the template would eliminate further lost time on projects.
And here's another project myth. The earlier you start your project the earlier you finish...wrong, in-fact dead wrong. In most cases you would benefit from starting later.
Starting earlier just causes more bad human behaviour it's called multi-tasking, and it makes projects run late. To eliminate it you need to know how to manage in multi-project environments.
But because most project managers earn their spurs through using prince 2 and Microsoft project to manage their projects they get tricked in believing that what they're doing must be good because everyone else is managing their project in the same way.
Well I have some news for you. Not everyone buys into the whole set due dates, work on percent complete, check your burn rate, start more projects early mentality; especially not the project managers who really care about finishing on time, in full and on budget.
Here's what they know that you don't...yet, that most project methods fail miserably when it comes to helping to deliver a project. And they know why and what to do differently.
